Centene Volunteers Bring Hope and Happiness to Dozens of Low Income Seniors

Just recently, Centene volunteers painted the recreational room at St. Andrew’s of Jennings affordable housing community. Seniors living in this community typically live on just $11,000 a year. After paying rent, purchasing groceries and vital medications, little disposable income remains for fun and outings. Which is why, their recreational room is so important. The Rec Room is a place they gather to play cards, watch television or simply sit and chat.
Residents had the biggest smiles on their faces while watching Centene volunteers transform a dull recreational room into a homier feel with just a coat of paint. This simple act of painting brought tremendous joy to the residents of Jennings. After all the work was completed, Centene volunteers enjoyed an ice cream social with the residents.
A week later, as part of our Safe Home for Seniors program which provides home repair services to economically disadvantaged seniors, another group of Centene volunteers installed new flooring in Mr. Joe’s home. Joe is recovering from a recent stroke and lives alone in a home that only had subfloors.
The uneven flooring caused a tripping hazard for Joe who uses a cane to walk and has left side weakness from his stroke. Thanks to a long, hard day’s work from six Centene volunteers flooring was laid in the kitchen, living and dining rooms, and bedroom making Joe safer in a home that he has lived in for over 60 years.
We are so grateful to Centene and their hard working and dedicated employees. They have brought hope and happiness to dozens of seniors-in-need.
